History of Southern Fresh Farms
The McMahon family, who are 4th Generation Farmers, have owned this land for over 43 years.
Robert McMahon Senior originally grew Flowers in the Daniels Rd Corridor in 1947.
Robert McMahon Senior started leasing the 440 Acres, now where Paseo Residential Development is located, in 1971-1989 in which he grew potatoes.
Robert Jr and Shelly McMahon started Southern Fresh Farms on the 4.76 acres, which they bought in 1980 from Robert McMahon Senior.
In 2014, they started their Agro-Tourism Park to educate Lee County, Florida on the vital role that agriculture holds in everyone’s life in all capacities. From clothing, textiles, and furniture, to name a few - the most important being FOOD!
Technology allows Southern Fresh Farms to grow food vertically as well as on the ground. The stacked towers they use for lettuce allow us to grow more per acre. We sell all the fresh vegetables and fruit directly in our market.
With their commitment to education on agriculture, we host educational field trips (pre-K to college students). Teaching and sharing over 50 years of agricultural knowledge In addition they currently have Lee County Exceptional Learning students on the work-to-study program here every week.
In 2022, they became a non-profit 501 (C) (3) operation called Southern Fresh Farms Urban Farm Collective, Inc. Education and the promotion of agriculture in Lee County, Florida is their top priority.
From harvests to our rescued barnyard animals, our goal is to promote the importance of agriculture in every facet.
The farm is home to Henry, who is one of the Holstein steers on the farm and has been nationally recognized as one of the heaviest Holstein steers in the world.
